Attractions
Horses, golf, or hunting not whetting your appetite for fun? Thomson is a great place for
sports enthusiasts. There is almost always a sport tournament being held in our city. Many
major USSA sanctioned softball tournaments are held in Thomson's Sweetwater Park. Archers
enjoy competition several times a year at the Thomson Field Archery Club. The Master's golf
tournament is a week-long celebration held each year in April in Augusta. Thomson is also
the perfect place to stop along the way as you travel to or from Braves and Falcons games
or football games at the University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, the University of Tennessee,
or others nearby in the south.
Nature lovers will never run out of beautiful scenery to admire. Strom Thurmond - Clarks
Hill Lake provides the ultimate opportunity to view a variety of wildlife, dip your toes
over the side during a quiet canoe ride, or trace the steps of botanist William Bartram
along Bartram Trail. Of course, the lake also hosts many water and sporting activities such
as swimming, fishing, skiing, boating, and sunbathing.
Those who prefer to browse local shops will find that Thomson offers a unique variety of
stores, a sampling of which include Camak Manufacturing Outlet; Amity Trader; Cato;
Hibbetts Sports; Lee Anne Cowart Interiors; Moore's Department Store; Peacock Hill Flowers
and Gifts; McFabulous; Rogers Trading Post; Sears; Stephens Jewelry; and Weathervane
Antiques. Augusta, Georgia is just 30 miles away if you prefer to shop the Mall or popular
chain stores.
